University of Waterloo 1st Annual
Habitat for Humanity
Yukon Build
On August 2nd, 2014, a group of University of Waterloo Faculty, Staff and Alumni will be heading to Whitehorse, Yukon to build a house. Follow along with us in our adventures ....
Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit organization
working toward a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, and financed with
affordable, no-interest mortgages. The three criteria to qualify for a Habitat
home are: (1) need for affordable housing, (2) ability to repay a Habitat
mortgage, and (3) willingness to partner with Habitat. In addition to mortgage
payments, each homeowner invests hundreds of hours of their own labour, known
as “sweat equity”, into the building of their house.
